Hugo Spritz
I’m declaring the Hugo Spritz the drink of summer. Am I allowed to do that?
Light, crisp, and refreshing, this cocktail was made for Houston’s hot summer.
My friend introduced me to this drink, and I fell hard for this simple cocktail that’s so easy to make if you’ve got mint growing in your yard!
Did you know you can grow mint pretty much year-round in Houston, and it’s one of the easiest herbs to grow?
It’s so easy to grow, we have to contain it in pots or with steel edging if we plant it in the ground. If not mint would take over its surroundings!
There are several versions of this recipe out there. I’ve tweaked this a lot, and this is my favorite way to make it:
INGREDIENTS
6-8 mint leaves plus a mint sprig for garnish
1 lime (you’ll juice half and slice the other half for garnish)
4 oz Prosecco or champagne
2 oz St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
2 oz sparkling water
ASSEMBLE
In a large wine glass, muddle 6-8 mint leaves in juice from half a lime to release the mint flavor
Fill the glass all the way up with ice!
Add the prosecco, St. Germain, and sparkling water.
Stir well.
Garnish with lime slices and a fresh mint sprig.
One drink and you’ll want to be in a pool or on a patio.
