Freeze Protection

Below are links to the exact products we use to cover all of our Houston-area gardens, landscaping, pots, and small trees.

ALL vegetable gardens need hoops + frost cloth! You don’t want the frost cloth actually touching your plants (hoops prevent the frost cloth from touching them!). If you don’t already have hoops from previous years, THIS is the set we use.

If you already have hoops from previous years and/or need to also cover your landscaping, THIS is what we use.

You will need landscaping pins to secure your frost cloth to the soil surface in your garden beds and to secure your frost cloth to the ground in your landscaping beds. How many do you need? Generally speaking, take how many you think you need and multiply that by four (ha!). No, but really - you need one pin every 6” - so plan accordingly. If you’re only covering your garden beds, you may only need one or two packs of THESE (depending on the size of your garden). If you’re covering a very large garden or landscaping, I recommend THESE.

First, do NOT cover your trees like the trees in the photo above. That’s a great way to kill a tree. Trees need to be covered from the ground up. We use THESE tree covers (90 x 63) for dwarf citrus trees as well as other sensitive ornamental trees in landscaping. The bags are 7.5 feet tall (be sure to select this size if you’re covering trees). To cover pots, we use these same covers, but in the 71 x 63 (for most pots, this allows us to cover the entire pot all the way to the ground).
